Sheila and Mark are hemmed in by truly enormous conifers. To gain a full impression of the size of the trees, pick out Sheila, in the dark shadow cast by these trees, (lower centre) and wearing blue with a white collar. She is at the top of a ladder.
There are 56 Leylandii down one side of the house. The row of trees, which extends down the side of both their front and back gardens, goes between Mark and Sheila's house and that of their neighbour and there is less than 3 feet clearance between the trunks and their house.
The trees shade about two thirds of our members' garden, but their neighbour avoids most of this shadow.
Mark and Sheila have a further row of Leylandii down the other side of their front garden and planted by their other neighbour.
The second photo clearly illustrates subsidence cracks.
