"Certain places seem to exist mainly because someone has written about them." (Joan Didion) r
...adventure, nature, people, culture, customs, wonder, beauty, history, politics, sun, exotic food, wild beasts, heaven & hell, laughter and tears, sweat and mosquitoes...
that's travel writing at it's best

The following lists will show you a selection of travel literature sorted by subject

This site is split into 7 parts:

the Americas, Africa & Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Australia/Oceania/North&South Pole list books for each continent A-Z by country.

The Compass button will take you to an array of Travel Topics (such as: Adventure, Biographical Accounts, Classic Journeys & Explorers, Setting up a New Home, Women Travel and Miscellaneous, ...)

The Boat button, shows lists of Travel Transport (travel by car, train, boat, on horseback, cycling, walking, ...) and Travel Companions (family members, cats, dogs, camels, elephants, fridges, ...) as well as a selection of non-specific 'Around the World' travel stories and anthologies

Each continent starts off with larger regions in
red (eg. Sahara; South East Asia), followed by the country A-Z in blue and all other entries, cities, regions within a country in slightly smaller black type.

I've also started to add a few fiction titles where appropriate (in
grey) and will put on more by and by.
