Angel - the final episode - Not Fade Away
The network closed Angel Investigations at least a
season too early, particularly when the final episode,
Not Fade Away, attracted more viewers in the USA than
the final Buffy episode (see page
8). What were they thinking ?!
Not Fade Away lived up to my expectations (with one
exception) and the characters were each taken to some
kind of conclusion.
Even Spike's poetry,
previously heard in Buffy
Season 5, makes an appearance in the episode !
There are several surprises thrown into the plot - Lorne's
killing of Lyndsey was one that I did not expect.
The script is tight and Spike's little speech before
going into battle - "as long as I don't have to
wear another bloody amulet" - referring to the
final Buffy episode (page 8)
was one of those little moments that I liked ....
The big disappointment for me was Wesley's death which
somehow seemed a bit unnecessary. Considering the major
role he played from Angel
Season 1 throughout the series - he should have
been there at the end of the episode.
The final scene, where Angel and team
meet in a rain-soaked dark alleyway to go into battle
once more, was the best way to end it - if it had to end.
Some great TV. These characters will not fade away.
