Buffy the Vampire Slayer
DVD review - Season
3
For me this is this is probably the best season -
although Season
2 comes a close
second. By now the whole
cast and writers were kicking butt (as they say in
the USA so I'm told) and they were able to introduce
new characters and plotlines
with
confidence. The down playing of Angel leaving in the
final episode avoided
over-sentimentality - and was much the better for it.
The beginning of a bad-girl dynamic with the introduction
of Faith (see page 6) as the
alternative slayer is also a major selling point for
me - no prizes for guessing why ! - and Faith comes
to play a big part in this series (and also in Season
4 and in Angel
Season 1 - see page 9).
Favourite episodes :
Doppelgangland - foreshadowing the Willow-goes-bad-plot
line of Season
6 this one demonstrates the character role reversal
that is a feature of the whole Buffy idea. Willow as
a vampire. There are some great one-liners.
Faith, Hope and Trick - Faith (see page
6) is introduced and brings a new challenge for
Buffy. Is Faith friend or foe ?
Bad Girls - Faith kills an innocent by mistake
and it takes her away from Buffy. This episode also introduces
Wesley and there is some excellent rivalry between him
and Giles.
Lovers Walk - Spike returns to Sunnydale and
this is the start of a new element to the show where
Spike gradually plays a bigger role. Great speech by
Spike to Buffy and Angel (see also page
2)
