Buffy - the best scary episode - Hush
Hush broke the mould in some ways. An episode with
very little dialogue - this was a brave move considering
that Buffy normally relies on its sharp, witty, pop-culture
script.
However,
perhaps because there is very little
dialogue, this episode from Season
4 is the most menacing of all episodes. The Gentlemen
are chilling in their 'mission' which involves cutting
the hearts from victims in their sleep using a scalpel
- ouch....
As with all Buffy episodes there is still humour and
perhaps the funniest bit is when Buffy mimes the killing
of vampires with a stake during Giles' silent presentation
about the danger that they face.
The scariness is heightened by the lack of dialogue,
eerie musical score and the make-up for the Gentlemen
themselves. It is also a masterstroke to make them float
along above ground. It gives that sense of no-escape
that is needed.
Of course, there is an escape - and Buffy and Riley
save the day !
