Bruach na Frithe and a retreat on Am Basteir.

ruler separating table information and text body .

First trip to the hills since November 2006.
Now 1st June 2007.
The forecast suggested there might only be a weather window from 9am to 12 noon. To meet this I got up early. Very early!
Left the road shortly after 4am, the plus side was the chance to take a few pictures in the dawn light.

This is the signature view of the Cuillins. Here's my version.

Am Basteir Gorge

Had planned to start with Am Basteir.
I took the direct line straight up the ridge.
I knew there was a 'bad step' involved, but as I got higher kept running into awkward situations and having to backtrack.
Eventually faced with a precarious balancing act on a high and exposed part of the ridge (and still no sign of the bad step)
discretion became the better part of valour and I retreated.
I now think that I picked the wrong line early on.
Never Mind. There's always another year.

A fine day. Pity about Am Basteir.
Never mind I'll come back another time.
Thanks for looking in.
