Bynack More and A' Choinneach. Munro and Top. |
8th May 2008. On holiday this week. High pressure from Scandinavia means exceptional weather here in Scotland. Where better to enjoy it than in the Cairngorms? |
Used the mountain bike to get to Bynack Stable. Used to be a tin hut here but no more. |
On foot from Bynack Stable, following the path which eventually leads to Braemar. Up onto the shoulder and Bynack More can be seen to the South. |
Thought the direct approach a bit steep. Walked up and over the bealach between Bynack More and Bynack Beag. Continued on to A' Choinneach to the South of the Munro. |
Here's the Summit cairn on A' Choinneach. |
The mass of Cairngorm to the West was a presence all day. Took a few pictures but I liked this one. |

The Munro Top gives a look at some other features. |
I was taken by this view of Loch Avon. |
Spent quite a bit of time on A' Choinneach top. It's a fine viewpoint in the middle of a lot of stunning mountain scenery. However time to move on. Crossed the wide bealach and up the gentle Southern slope of Bynack More. Detoured to have a look at the Barns of Bynack. I'd heard about these but until seen in the flesh it's hard to appreciate what impressive features they are. Took a lot of pictures but have to cut it down for the website unfortunately. |
| This is my choice. It's hard though to convey the scale of these unusual formations. If you ever visit this Munro make a point of coming below the Barns and view them from the South to gain a true impression. |
So, the finale of the day. The best shall be last. Up the last few yards to enjoy quarter of an hour in the Sunshine on top of Bynack More. |
| Bynack Mores' cairn. The whole top of the mountain is a jumble of these rough rocks. |
| Managed a Munro before the year was out. Must try to do more than one a year in future... |
| Thanks for looking in |
