NAME THAT SOIL - International

Worldwide Soil Identification and Visual Soil Map Interpreter

Enables non-specialists to identify and name soils by the United Nations FAO classification (with USDA translation). The program leads through a succession of questions about a soil, shows parent material, soil group and unit (with sub-unit and phase if required), and presents a scaled and annotated colour picture of the soil profile described by your answers. Pictures of any soil class are also displayed at a touch using symbols that appear on FAO soil maps. There are sections on soil formation and origin, climatic zones, a user's guide and reference to source and further information. CAL worksheets provide a course in soil identification and soil map interpretation for student classes.
