INTERNATIONAL RUGBY FOOTBALL BOARD DIRECTIVES MARCH 1995
Rugby Footwear
The Council concurred with the view that a new design of rugby footwear
which incorporated a vulcanised 'rubber ridged sole boot' was unproven
so far as the playing of rugby football was concerned.
The Council also concurred that the new design was not objected to on
safety grounds but that they could not be considered safer than other
types of rugby footwear. The Council were also not in favour of using
the term 'blades'.
NOTE: Vulcanised 'Rubber Ridged Sole Boots' are now permitted.
--------------------------
The referee also has the power to decide before or during a match that
any item of a players dress is dangerous.

Personal Comment
So cut and file your toenails before the game if you want to play
Fijian style, as Vinny Mekatoa at our club does in the hot weather.

I am trying to compile data about boots used to play Rugby. This data will be published here in the WWW as it becomes available.
