A point to consider?
Please be aware that your computer systems may be triggering an automatic response from some in-house filter systems saying that our newsletter has adult content within it.
Now you and I both know this means we are using the words transgender and/or transsexual in our text, but think for a moment, if the email in question had been from one of your service users and they had disclosed to you they are trans, and they had received one of those emails in response, how would they have felt? How would you have felt if it was you?
Under the Gender Equality Duty that came in to force in April 2007, and the equal access to services that will come into effect in December 07 (Or there about) that person may very well have a case against your service and therefore NOW is the time to look at taking the words transsexual and transgender out of your restricted list of words.
There is now officially a seventh strand to diversity, that of Transgender (See the report below for details), and if you wish to actively engage with that community it will not help if a primary source of communication emails cannot be used because of inappropriate in-house filters.

Welcome to the first edition of our monthly newsletter. Since the launch of the Gender Advisory Bureau in the North West Region in May, there has been a huge interest in Trans Awareness Seminars and in house training from organisations all over the region. Our next multi-agency seminar will be in the 19th Sept 07 in Blackburn. Blackburn and Darwen PCT have kindly offered to host this event.
We are hoping to add a letters page to future newsletters, so please send us any comments or views about Trans issues and we will publish them in the next issue.
Kind regards
Katrina
