About BCAL

BRADFORD COMMUNITY ARTS will be celebrating its 30th

anniversary within the next twelve months. A good moment to

celebrate the past, from small beginnings with no premises -

working from the back of a van - and look forward to the future.

In 1979 The Arts and Museums Division of Bradford Council set

up a Community Arts project to make provision beyond the traditional

Arts and Museums service and to cater for those people who

"wouldn't be seen dead in a museum".

Bradford Community Arts, then (as now) aims to make creative

skills and resources available to the wider community

During this time we have worked with a huge number of

community organisations and individuals throughout the area.

A vast number of artifacts have been produced, only a small

selection of which we can show you here.

We have been in our present home in Little Germany since 1988.

To celebrate the move, community groups from all over

Bradford produced the bcal mosaic which still adornes the wall

opposite the entrance to our building ( The Arts & resources Centre for the Community )

We co-own the building with Bradford Council

and share it with Bradford Resource Centre and other community groups.

We have a cafe area, a creche, available free course and project participants,

a large performance space, often used for local musicians,

and other meeting rooms which can be hired for a very small charge

by local groups.
