A very fat locally caught winter stock fish. Not everyone's cup of tea but still a very entertaining way to spend a winters afternoon, better than staying in and keeps you in practice in anticipation of the season to come. This fish fell to a huge fluffy Damsel nymph raked in as if strapped to the back of an exocet.That's stockies for you, still the lad who caught it, made his day.
This fish is a bit of a strange one, caught 12 miles upstream of the nearest fishery. Note the shape of the head, very brown trout like,and the spots either side of the pink stripe along the lateral line towards the tail, hmm..
A beautiful sunny breezy day,drifting in a boat, they fell to a two hook rig, on a floating line. The flies were a daddy on the top and a size 10 gold tip hair's-ear on the point. All the fish were hooked in no more than three feet of water. The best fish here was a tad under 4Ib.
