This interesting, if gloomy picture is by Paul Brinson (he appears to have preferred to use the name Paul to his first name of John) who exhibited from about 1895 to 1920. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Dudley Gallery. Paul Brinson was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was a founder and secretary of the British Watercolour Society and lived in Uxbridge and Reading at different times. The above is a landscape in pastel, but he also painted in watercolours. http://www.panvertu.com/index.htm This is the first picture I have found of this artist. The owner of the Panvertu Gallery gave me kind permission to display the picture. There is a link to the gallery. |

St Mary The Virgin, Bransgore, Hampshire. Front right hand side of church Erected by her loving children In loving memory Ann Brinson who fell asleep May 23 1888 aged 83 years . I will fear no evil for thou art with me. Also of John Brinson husband of the above who died August 22 1888 aged 86. I discovered this by accident. We were on holiday for a few days when Freya was 3 months old in 2003. I was looking around St Mary's church in Bransgore, Hampshire. When I came upon this memorial to John & Ann Brimson. This is the only monumental inscription I have found for a Brinson in England. I have seen many more in New Bern NC, USA. It's a much rarer name in the UK. |
