999 Call out for Berry Head
This page contains a Summary of all call outs for the year 2002 for the Berry Head Team

These are some abbreviations used on some of the jobs, UU = Units used, Helo = Helicopter, LB = Lifeboat
 ILB = Inshore Lifeboat, IRT = Initial Response Team, BURT = Back Up Response Team.
Oscar 4 is the local council security boat.
The Helicopters we use are:- RESCUE 193 & 192 from Chivenor (RAF), Hotel Lima and Wiskey Bravo from Portland (Coastguard), Oscar 99 from Exeter (Police), Helimed from Exeter ( Air Ambulance).


A selection of some of our jobs during months  April / May / June  2002

3/04/02 - 21.30  Tasked to Berry Head to search for a suicidal male.  Person located by Police prior to our arrival.

4/04/02 - 13.32  Tasked to the river Dart after a report of a small boat on fire.  The fire had been extinguished prior to there arrival, and everyone was safe.  UU  IRT, Fire brigade

5/04/02 - 21.22 Tasked to Babbicombe after a report of a suicidal male from the Police.  The team was stood down prior to there arrival.  UU  BURT, Police

08/04/02 - 16.44 Tasked to Brixham Breakwater after a report of  someone falling off the wall onto rocks below.  Person was secured by the team before the ILB recovered the person safely to shore.  UU  BURT, ILB

09/04/02 - 17.57 Tasked to Brixham Breakwater after a report of persons in the water.  While fishing the Father had fallen in the water, the son had seen this and ran down and also fell in, then it was the turn of the daughter.  They all managed to get out before our arrival and were ok apart from being a bit cold.  UU  IRT, ILB

10/04/02 - 11.03  Tasked to search Torbay area for a missing boy.  The boy was found safe and well by a member of Berry Head team.  UU  BURT, BURT, LB, Wiskey Bravo

12/04/02 - 17.44 Tasked to Paignton harbour to launch Torbay Coastguard boat and then to help search for a possible body in Torquay harbour.  Area was searched but nothing was found.  UU  BURT, BURT, Coastguard boat, ILB, Police

29/05/02 - 20.54 Tasked to Waterside camp after a report of a suicidal male on the cliff, man was talked down by Police.  UU  IRT, Police, ILB

28/06/02 -        Tasked to the mouth of the river Dart after a report of a passenger vessel taking on water after hitting a rock.  After a Mayday broadcast a local passenger boat managed to take all 26 passengers off leaving to two crew to try and head for shore.  The engines of the stricken vessel became flooded, so the Harbour patrol boat had to tow the boat onto a nearby beach to save it from sinking.
 Three of Berry head team went across to the Dartmouth side to help the Dartmouth coastguard lads with the passengers.   UU  BURT, Harbour patrol, LB
