999 call outs for the Torbay Team

These are some abbreviations used on some of the jobs, UU = Units used, Helo = Helicopter, LB = Lifeboat
 ILB = Inshore Lifeboat, IRT = Initial Response Team, BURT = Back Up Response Team.
Oscar 4 is the local council security boat.
The Helicopters we use are:- RESCUE 193 & 192 from Chivenor (RAF), Hotel Lima and Wiskey Bravo from Portland (Coastguard), Oscar 99 from Exeter (Police), Helimed from Exeter ( Air Ambulance).

07/06/01-21.44 Called out to collect details from a small boat being towed into Torquay harbour.  UU  IRT

05/06/01-10.58 Tasked to waterside holiday camp after a report from the police that a man was threatening to jump off a high rock.  Coastguard units provided lighting, coms and man power while we all waited 3 hours while the Police talked to the man, as the rock was away from the main cliff we could not safely get to him, so it was decided to let the Helicopter have a go, but due to the condition of the man, a Police officer who is also an experienced member of the Teighnmouth Coastguard team was winched up onto the rock and recovered the man who was taken to a nearby beach and into Police custody.  UU  BURT, 169, Police, ILB

05/06/01-18.59 Called out after a report of lads jumping off cliffs in Paignton, safety advice was given.  UU  IRT

04/06/01-18.22 Called out after a report of lads jumping off cliffs in Paignton, safety advice was given.  UU  IRT

03/06/01-18.24 Tasked to Torquay after a report that two drunken lads were messing about in an inflatable, found to be two French lads not drunk and were ok.  UU  IRT, Police

03/06/01-15.41 Tasked to Torquay after a report of children throwing stones at passing boats, safety advice was given.        UU IRT

02/06/01-07.05 Tasked to keep observations on a small inflatable boat with two persons on board being blown out to sea, taken back to shore by the ILB.  UU  IRT, ILB

30/05/01-21.12 Tasked to Corbyns head after a report of two children cut off by the tide, both children managed to self recovered before our arrival.  UU  IRT

28/05/01-14.15 While on patrol we were tasked to Preston sands after a report from Ambulance control that a man had fallen on the steps and they required our assistance, the man had sustained a serious head injury, taken to Hospital by Ambulance.  UU  IRT, Torbay boat, Ambulance

24/05/01-20.50 While on PR duty the full Burt was tasked to Corbyns head after a report of a man the was stuck halfway up the cliff after being cut off by the tide, upon our arrival the man had fallen back into the water and managed to swim round to the beach, he was later taken to Hospital by Ambulance with lacerations to his leg.  UU  BURT, ILB

19/05/01-17.00 Called out to the Imperial hotel after a report of children jumping off cliffs into the water, safety advice given to all concerned.  UU  IRT, Oscar 4

1805/01-18.41 Tasked to Hopes nose to assist Ambulance crew recover a man from the cliff path with leg injures, the man was safely recovered to the top by stretcher into the Ambulance.  UU  IRT, Ambulance

15/05/01-19.10 Tasked to Princess pier after a report of person in the water, the man was safely recovered by a passing fishing boat a taken ashore.  UU  BURT, ILB, HL

11/05/01-11.24 Tasked to Torquay after a report of a sunken speedboat, turned out to be a capsized pram dingy, no persons involved. UU  IRT

06/05/01-16.12 Tasked to keep observation on a broken down speed boat being towed into Paignton harbour. UU  IRT

05/05/01-18.06 Tasked to Corbyns head after a report of children cut off by the tide, the ILB managed to recover all children to Holden pier.  UU  BURT, ILB

05/05/01-14.10 Called to Roundham head to collect details of two lads that had been cut off by the Tide, and being brought ashore by the ILB.  UU  IRT, ILB

05/05/01-13.41 Tasked to Torquay to keep observations on the ILB while they towed in a speed boat.

26/04/01-16.05 Tasked to Torquay area after a report of a possible body in the water, found to be an old net.        UU IRT

23/04/01-20.50 Tasked to Water side holiday camp after a report of a person fallen over the cliff.  Coastguard, Paramedic and ILB crew went along the rocks to help the man who had head, neck, chest and leg injuries.  Rescue 169 air lifted to casualty to Torbay hospital.  UU  BURT, ILB, 169, Ambulance

23/04/01-20.20 Tasked to Holden pier after a report of a wind surfer in trouble, when the ILB found the chad he declined any help.  UU  IRT, ILB

16/04/01-15.03 Called to Paignton harbour while out on patrol to collect details on a possible Diver accident.

15/04/01-09.36 Tasked to Watcome beach area after a report from Police of a Hand Grenade found in the woods, area was secured and the item was dealt with by EODU.  UU  IRT, Police, EODU

13/04/01-09.19 Tasked to the Hopenose area after a report of a fishing vessel broken down, vessel managed to make to Torquay Harbour.  UU  IRT

11/04/01-22.03 Called out to Ferry cove after a report of 12 children on the beach possibly in trouble.  The kids were having a party and were advised by the Police.  UU  IRT, Police

09/04/01-19.21 Tasked to keep a fishing vessel under observation while they repaired the engine.  UU  IRT

08/04/01-19.59 Tasked to Daddy hole after a report of a car over the cliff, a cliff man was lowered down to search the cliff face for survivors while the crew from the lifeboat checked the cliff base, one woman was found near the wrecked car sadly dead.  UU  BURT, LB, Oscar 99, 169, Police, Fire brigade.


05/04/01-12.00 Tasked to Preston beach area after a report of a windsurfer in trouble, ILB managed to recover the man to shore.  UU  IRT, ILB

05/04/01-10.59 Tasked to Hopes nose area after a report of a pair of missing divers from a dive boat.  Both divers were located safe and well by a passing dive boat and transferred to the Life boat.  UU  IRT, HL, LB

04/04/01-18.28 Tasked to Wall hill after a report from Police of persons stuck on the cliff.  Persons found to be climbers safe and well.  UU  BURT, Oscar 99, Police

03/04/01-19.05 Called out to Holicombe beach after a report of a dead Dolphin washed ashore.

02/04/01-22.16 Tasked to Preston beach after a report from Police of a woman in the water.  The women managed to get out before the mobile arrival.  UU  IRT, Police

20/03/01-17.41 Tasked to Livermead area after a report of body boarder in trouble, upon there arrival the lads had safely made it ashore.  UU  IRT

18/03/01-16.54 Tasked to Petito to stand by while Police tried to talk to a suicidal women, the women was safely recovered by the Police.  UU  IRT,

14/03/01-......... Called out after a report of a white flashing light off Paignton Harbour, the light turned out to be the East Cardinal marker flashing.  UU  IRT

13/03/01-02.00 Tasked to Meadfoot beach after a report from the Police that they had located a suicidal women, after talking with her they managed to coax her down, then she was strechered to the Ambulance.  UU  IRT, Police, Ambulance

11/03/01-15.38 Just as the crew from Torbay boat were recovering there boat up the slipway they were tasked to assist Ambulance crew evacuate a man that had injured his shoulder on Ferry cove.  UU  IRT, Ambulance

19/02/01-08.38 Tasked to Brixham to assist EODU with ordinance found on the beach.  UU  IRT, EODU

18/02/01-13.37 Tasked to Walls hill after a report of climbers in trouble, climbers found to be safe and well.  UU  BURT, Oscar 99, Police, ILB

18/02/01-13.19 Tasked to Babacombe after a report of a vessel taking on water, on our arrival the boat had made ashore safely.  UU  IRT, ILB

17/02/01-19.12 Tasked to the Imperial hotel after a report of a dog barking on the beach for a long time, possible that owner was in the water.  On arrival the dog ran away and a search found nothing.  UU  IRT, ILB

11/02/01-15.44 While on patrol they were tasked to Broadsands to help search for possible canoeist in trouble, nothing was found except a cluster of fishing markers.  UU  IRT

09/02/01-19.51 Tasked to Hope Nose to assist Ambulance crew recover a fisherman from the cliff path half a mile from the road, sadly the man had had a heart attack and was pro noised dead on scene.  UU  BURT, Ambulance, Police

07/02/01-22.13 Tasked to prepare a landing site at Torbay Hospital for an incoming Helicopter with a casualty.  UU  IRT

06/02/01-09.23 Tasked to Oddicombe after a report of a land slip on the beach, no persons were found to be in trouble.  UU  IRT

05/02/01-13.44 Tasked to Preston sands after a report of a person swimming after a dingy being blown offshore, upon our arrival it became clear the man was with a kite sailing school.  UU  IRT

04/02/01-23.14 Tasked to Princess pier after a report of persons in the water, both persons got out of the water with the help from the Police before our arrival.  UU IRT

29/01/01-10.08 Called out to back up Dartmouth team after a report of a sheep over the cliff,  sadly the sheep bolted as the cliff man approached and fell to its death.  UU  IRT

13/01/01-17.21 Tasked to Paignton pier after a report of a canoeist in trouble, the man managed to make it ashore unaided.  UU  IRT

12/01/01-19.25 Called out to patrol the beaches due to adverse weather conditions.  UU  IRT

11/01/01-22.11 Called out after a report of a dog in trouble on Oddicombe beach, the dog was recovered by the Police before our arrival.  UU  IRT

11/01/01-18.30 Called out to patrol the beaches due to adverse weather conditions.  UU  IRT

07/01/01-06.05 Tasked to Torbay Hospital to prepare a landing site for the transfer of a patient to Swansea.  UU  IRT, 169
01/01/01-01.39 Tasked to Livermead beach after a report of a person in the water, the man was recovered by the mans friends before our arrival.  UU  IRT
