Training with the local Fire Brigade

The Fire Brigade had contacted us asking if we would be interested in having a look at there inflatable rescue mats.
These mats can be used on a number of surfaces mud, ice even water basically anywhere that has a surface that you mit get stuck in then these mats would do the job.  We have a coulee of estuaries in our patch that have caught a few people off guard and ended up stuck in the mud.

The mats come rolled up in a bag as you can see to the left of the picture.  They are then inflated using a breathing apparatus cylinder until fully inflated then your ready for action.

Once you've put your dry suit and lifejacket on and get them to come back for you then you can make a start.

The mats proved very stable even on water as you can see, i'm not sure what he's running from.

The Fire team become a bit over confident with there mat and asked us to try and capsize it so we did.

The mats still worked well upside down

We were shown an alternative means of moving the mat by using a fire pump.
