999 Call out for Berry Head
This page contains all call outs for the year 2001 for the Berry Head Team

These are some abbreviations used on some of the jobs, UU = Units used, Helo = Helicopter, LB = Lifeboat
 ILB = Inshore Lifeboat, IRT = Initial Response Team, BURT = Back Up Response Team.
Oscar 4 is the local council security boat.
The Helicopters we use are:- RESCUE 193 & 192 from Chivenor (RAF), Hotel Lima and Wiskey Bravo from Portland (Coastguard), Oscar 99 from Exeter (Police), Helimed from Exeter ( Air Ambulance).

30/09/01-00.38 Tasked to Princess pier after a report of a man threatening to jump into the sea, the area was searched but nothing was found.  UU  BURT, LB


29/09/01-21.56 Called out to assist Police search for a missing female in the Berry Head area, the area was thouruly searched but nothing was found.  UU  BURT, LB, Oscar 99, Police


12/09/01-19.12 Tasked to Berry Head after a report of a man threatening to jump, upon our arrival we found him walking back to his car.  UU  BURT, Oscar 99, Police


31/08/01-19.57 Tasked to Babbicombe area after a report of a women threatening to jump off a cliff, a Police negotiator managed to persuade her to come away from they edge but she slipped but was stopped by the Police man, a cliff man was lowered quickly down and recovered the woman.  UU  BURT, Police


26/08/01-18.36 Tasked to Berry Head after a report of two lads at the base of the cliffs in trouble,  a passing boat asked if they were ok and they were.  UU  BURT


25/08/01-17.58  Called out to St. Mary's bay after a report of clothing found on the beach,  area searched but nothing was found.  UU  IRT


25/08/01-14.25 Tasked to Round ham head after a report from the Coastguard boat of a boy trapped on a ledge on the cliff, the boy was safely lowered down to the boat and taken ashore.  UU  BURT, Torbay Boat


19/08/01-15.15 Tasked to Berry Head to look out for a capsized dingy, the dingy was found to be ok and making way.  UU IRT


15/08/01-20.56 Tasked to Hopes nose to assist Torbay team search for a missing 15 year old lad, area was thouruly searched but nothing was found, he later turned up in town.  UU  BURT, LB, OSCAR 99


15/08/01-20.18 Tasked to Waterside area after a report of a broken down jetski, area was searched but nothing was found, later found out that the person had managed to self recover.  UU  IRT

12/08/01-13.23 Tasked to the river Dart after a report of a Yacht on its side in the mud, turns the people had got the tide wrong and were now waiting for the water to return while they were in the pup.  UU  IRT


12/08/01-12.32 Tasked to Brixham Harbour to assist Paramedics recover man from a boat that had been hurt while jumping off cliffs into the sea.  UU  IRT, Paramedics


05/08/01-15.05 Tasked to St. Mary's bay after a report of a car over the cliff, a full search was carried out but all that was found was a red metal sheet.  UU  IRT


01/08/01-07.36 Tasked to Berry Head after a report of a fisherman stuck done the cliff on a ledge, the man was safely recovered up the cliff by the team.  UU  BURT


29/07/01-13.46 Tasked to Brixham Breakwater beach after a report from the Police that a 8 year old boy had gone missing, after a search the boy was found safe and well standing by his dads car in the car park.  UU  BURT, LB, Oscar 4


29/07/01-09.17 Tasked to search from Berry Head to Kingswear after a small dingy was found adrift 1 mile off shore, after an extensive search the owners were found in a pup 8 miles up river.  UU  BURT, Life boat, HL


27/07/01-02.14 Tasked to Kingswear after a report  of three persons missing in a dingy on the river, after an extensive search they were found safe and well by a team from a Customs vessel in the area.  UU  BURT, Customs


23/07/01-18.30 Tasked to Petit Tor after a report of a person fallen over the cliff, diverted to Hospital to prepare a landing site after HL had recovered the body.  UU  BURT, Police, HL


19/07/01-12.33 Tasked to Brixham fish ti assist Paramedics recover a fisher man that had fallen and broken his wrist.  UU  IRT, Paramedics

15/07/01-05.13 Tasked to Brixham Harbour after a report from the Police of a body in the water.  The body was recovered by the ILB.  UU  IRT, Police, ILB

06/07/01-22.16 Tasked to Greenaway quay after a report of somebody in the water, a passing yacht managed to recover the man and take him ashore.  The man had fallen from his dingy trying to get back to his boat when then dingy capsized.  UU  IRT, IRT, Police, Dart Harbour Launch

03/07/01-19.36 Tasked to Berry Head after a report from Police of climbing ropes with no body attached Over the cliff, the area was searched and two climbers were found free climbing safe and well.  UU  BURT, BURT

03/07/01-18.45 Tasked to Berry Head Quarry after a report of young lads jumping off the cliffs into the sea, safety advice was given.  UU  IRT

02/07/01-22.56 Called out after a report of a small Dory boat lost in the fog, Torbay Lifeboat managed to locate the boat by radar.  UU  IRT, LB

30/06/01-15.55 Tasked to Berry Head Quarry after a report of a young lad getting hurt while jumping off cliffs into the sea.  The lad had suspected back injuries and was taken to Hospital by land Ambulance.  UU  IRT, Ambulance, Air Ambulance

26/06/01-17.48 Tasked to Livermead area after a report from the Police of a missing 15 year old girl, the girl returned home before units arrived on scene.  UU  BURT

21/06/01-13.23 Report of a fishing vessel on fire off Berry Head, found to be a fishing boat with a smoky exhaust.  UU IRT

09/06/01-01.55 Called to Brixham marina to meet a small speed boat coming and give the three young lads some safety advice.  UU  IRT
06/06/01-15.05 Tasked to St. Mary's bay holiday camp after a report of a large vessel adrift in the bay, vessel found to be swing on anchor safe and well.  UU  IRT

05/06/01-22.58 Tasked to waterside holiday camp after a report from the police that a man was threatening to jump off a high rock.  Coastguard units provided lighting, coms and man power while we all waited 3 hours while the Police talked to the man, as the rock was away from the main cliff we could not safely get to him, so it was decided to let the Helicopter have a go, but due to the condition of the man, a Police officer who is also an experienced member of the Teighnmouth Coastguard team was winched up onto the rock and recovered the man who was taken to a nearby beach and into Police custody.  UU  BURT, 169, Police, ILB


04/06/01-22.50 Tasked to Mansands after a report of a boat over due with four young lads on board, area searched and they were found safe in a nearby house.  UU  BURT


30/05/01-15.34 Tasked to Elbury cove after a report of a male on the beach having an Epileptic fit, area search but nothing was found, the ILB found the man two miles away at Churston cove.  UU  IRT, Ambulance, ILB


24/05/01-20.50 24/05/01-20.50 Tasked to Corbyns head after a report of a man the was stuck halfway up the cliff after being cut off by the tide, upon our arrival the man had fallen back into the water and managed to swim round to the beach, he was later taken to Hospital by Ambulance with lacerations to his leg.  UU  BURT, ILB


15/05/01-19.06 Tasked to Princess pier after a report of person in the water, the man was safely recovered by a passing fishing boat a taken ashore.  UU  BURT, ILB, HL


13/05/01-10.38 Tasked to Breakwater beach after a report of a Dingy floating with no one inside, area searched but nothing was found, thought to have come from the Harbour.  UU  IRT, ILB


11/05/01-19.08 While out training we where tasked to Kingswear to meet a motor boat brining in a male with head injures from a Cruse liner.  UU  IRT, Ambulance


05/05/01-20.25 Called to Roundham head to collect details of two lads that had been cut off by the Tide, and being brought ashore by the ILB.  UU  IRT, ILB


23/04/01-20.50 Tasked to Water side holiday camp after a report of a person fallen over the cliff.  Coastguard, Paramedic and ILB crew went along the rocks to help the man who had head, neck, chest and leg injuries.  Rescue 169 air lifted to casualty to Torbay hospital.  UU  BURT, ILB, 169, Ambulance


15/04/01-13.12 While on patrol the vehicle was tasked to Watcombe to meet EODU after a report of a hand grenade on the beach.  UU  IRT, EODU


14/04/01-16.25 Tasked to Berry head to keep observations on a broken down speed boat being towed in to Brixham by a passing motor boat.  UU  IRT


08/04/01-19.57  Tasked to back up Torbay at Daddy hole after a report of a car over the cliff, a cliff man was lowered down to search the cliff face for survivors while the crew from the lifeboat checked the cliff base, one woman was found near the wrecked car sadly dead.  UU  BURT, LB, Oscar 99, 169, Police, Fire brigade.


03/04/01-15.51 Tasked to Stokegabrial to assist Paramedics with a male that had suffered a heart attack on the pontoon.  UU  IRT, Paramedics


18/03/01-16.54 Tasked to back up Torbay team with lighting gear at Petito, while Police tried to talk to a suicidal women, the women was safely recovered by the Police.  UU  IRT,


18/02/01-13.37 Tasked to Walls hill after a report of climbers in trouble, climbers found to be safe and well.  UU  BURT, Oscar 99, Police, ILB


14/02/01-18.00 Tasked to back up Dartmouth team after a report of a possible person missing, area searched but nothing was found.  UU  BURT, BURT, HL


11/02/01-15.44 Tasked to Brixham Break water to search for possible canoeist in trouble, nothing was found except a cluster of fishing markers.  UU  IRT


07/02/01-12.41 Tasked to Berry head to keep a Yacht with rudder problems under observation while she sailed into Brixham.  UU  IRT


03/02/01-13.36 Tasked to assist Ambulance crew evacuate a women who had fallen on rocks near the water line.  The woman was strechered to a waiting Lifeboat and taken to Brixham harbour to a waiting Ambulance.  UU  BURT, Ambulance, ILB
01/02/01 - 20.37 Tasked to Kingswear after a report that a person had fallen from a ferry.  The man was returning across the river in his tender when the engine broke down, a passing ferry tried to tow him ashore but the man fell into the water.  The crew were unable to recover the person due to the high sides of the boat, so a passing boat managed to pick him up and get him to shore suffering from mild hypothermia.  UU  IRT, Ambulance

29/01/01 - 10.08 Tasked to back up Dartmouth team who had a sheep over the cliff,  sadly the sheep bolted when the cliff man approached and fell to its death.  UU  IRT
