LEMONS

Imperial - Large fruit on vigorous bushes which crop well. Like all lemons responds to pruning particularly if planted in the conservatory border. Rivers Collection.
Lemonade - Milder flavour than most lemons, prolific and juicy medium sized fruit on small bushes.
Lisbon - Medium sized almost seedless fruit. Very productive dense bush. Next to Meyer's in hardiness.
Meyer's Lemon - Discovered in China in early 1900's. This compact variety flowers and fruits prolifically. Medium sized juicy fruit of good flavour and delightful fragrance. More or less continuous flowering. Rivers acquired this from Meyer. Now improved. Ponderosa - A natural Lemon X citron hybrid producing lemons the size of a grapefruit.
Quatre Saisons (Everbearing. Lunario. Eureka) - A popular lemon from the Mediterranean with large crops.
Variegated Lemon (L. variegata. Panachee) - A striking plant with green and cream variegated foliage. The medium sized fruit are yellow with green stripes going yellow when fully ripe.
Villa Franca - Medium to large fruit on almost thornless bushes. An excellent and productive variety.
Volkamer Lemon - Probably a Lemon x Sour orange. Vigorous and productive. Orange coloured fruit which make a good marmalade. Used by us a rootstock for Lemons.

 

LIMES. Citrus aurantifolia

Indian Lime. (Khata de l’India) A rather prickly but very floriferous and fruitful small bush. Typical lime flavour.

La Valette. A compact growing lemon x lime hybrid with medium sized fruit of good acidity. Prolific cropper.

Rangpur. Not a true lime but a good substitute. Rather like an acid mandarin. Reddish fruit on very small ornamental bushes with purple new growth. Very attractive.

Tahiti. (Bearss) A large sweet seedless lime. Mainly used for drinks and favoured by gin drinkers. Compact but prolific variety. Fruit becomes yellow eventually.

Key Lime. (Mexican Lime). Bartender’s Lime. West Indian Lime. A small fruited lime on a thorny compact bush. Can be picked green, or yellow when fully ripe.
