MANAGER - Danny Wilson Made 77 appearances for Barnsley scoring two goals.
Became Player Manager in 1994-95 following the departure of Reds boss Viv Anderson to Middlesbrough.
In his first season the Reds finished in 6th position, followed by 10th position in the 1995-96 campaign as his side slipped away from the play-off zone.
In 1996-97 Wilson guided the team to promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history.
It was a magnificent achievement, but despite making Oakwell record buys during the summer Wilson was unable to keep his side in the top flight. Nevertheless it was a memorable season with a 1-0 victory at Anfield and a fabulous FA Cup run which saw Barnsley knock out Bolton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester Utd.
Many fans have not forgiven Wilson for pledging his future to the club following relegation, only to leave for Sheffield Wednesday in the summer. That coupled with the sale of Neil Redfearn to Charlton Athletic ripped the heart out of the side.
Danny Wilson - Best Ever Reds Manager.
