NATIONWIDE LEAGUE DIVISION 2 Friday 9 August 2003 GLAVIN THRILLED TO BE BACK WITH THE REDS (Barnsley Chronicle 4 July 2003)
Barnsley Chronicle Sports Editor Andrew Lodge spoke to Ronnie Glavin following his recent appointment as Coach. This is an extract from the Barnsley Chronicle on 4th July 2003.
"It is an exciting prospect from my point of view. The potential of this club is second to none. The facilities are top class, the fans are excellent but things have not gone particularly well over the last couple of seasons.
Hopefully the people involved can now rectify that and go on from here.
I think that there are one or two good players here. The squad needs improving bit it is also important that we give everyone a chance.
We will look at the players individually in training and make some assessments before bringing some in. We want to see what they are capable of doing before seeing what positions we need to strengthen. That is only fair.
We will bed passing the ball. When I was playing I needed to get the ball at my feet before I could do any damage and that is the way we have to play. We have to use the passing game.
Barnsley supporters are brought up on that and the success this club has had in the past has come about through teams that play football. So we are looking to bring that back.
It is a great time to be at Barnsley and hopefully this is the start of something special."
Reds fans will remember Glavin's first arrival 25 years ago when he played a major part in the team's rise from the lower reaches of the Football League.
The fact that Glavin wants to play football the right way will be music to Barnsley supporters' ears.
