Barnsley Versus Colchester

It is very difficult to know what to expect from Barnsley at the start of the season, after all the troubles of the summer.  At the time of writing these forecasts, we are still in administration and unable to sign players.  It is to be hoped that Gudjon and Ronnie manage to get a sense of team spirit within the side to help us through the first few matches.  Colchester had a great run at the end of last season when they looked in real trouble, and if they carry on that form, they will be well up the table this season.

Opposing Player to Watch: Scott McGleish
Copa Verdict: 2-1

Barnsley Versus Bournemouth

Bournemouth came up via the play offs last season, and will be looking to consolidate this time around.  They had a pretty good home record last season, and this will be a difficult test.  We certainly have to improve our away form this season, and we will be looking to come away from the south coast with at least a point.

Opposing Player to Watch: Steve Fletcher
Copa Verdict: 1-1

Barnsley Versus Brighton

The Seagulls have lost Bobby Zamora to Spurs, but in the second half of last season they looked a decent enough 1st division side, and will be one of the favourites for promotion.  Zamora has been replaced by Chelsea reserve striker Leon Knight, who was on loan at Wednesday last season.  Much will depend on how well he fits into the side.

Opposing Player to Watch: Leon Knight
Copa Verdict: 1-1

Barnsley Versus Blackpool

We managed to do the double over Blackpool last season, although we lost in the FA Cup. The Carling Cup game at Oakwell a couple of weeks earlier will be a pointer for this one. Mike Sheron will be out to prove something against us, and we will have to contend with Martin Bullock also.  I fear a defeat is on the cards here.

Opposing Player to Watch: Martin Bullock
Copa Verdict: 0-2

Barnsley Versus Notts County

Former Barnsley boss Steve Parkin is now assistant to Billy Dearden at Meadow Lane, and will be making an early return to Oakwell. County will be looking to repeat last seasons 4 points taken from the Reds in games that we should have won.  Mark Stallard will be looking to continuing his goalscoring form from last season, and will be the main threat for the Magpies.

Opposing Player to Watch: Mark Stallard
Copa Verdict: 2-0
