25 Leo Bertos A youngster full of promise that operates on the wing and another product of the youth set up at Oakwell. Leo will be looking to break into the first team and stay there. Suffered a knee injury in pre-season and may therefore miss out at the start.
11 Dene Gorre Found himself frozen out under Spackman and then Steve Parkin but injuries led to him finding his way back into the team at the end of last season. A quality player and can turn a game if his attitude is right.
14 Alex Neil A £25,000 buy from Airdrie by former Reds manager Dave Bassett. Alex was in and out of the side last season, making 20 full appearances with 9 as substitute scoring 22 goals. Still just 21 he has time on his side and his best is probably yet to come.
4 Mitch Ward Arrived for £200,000 from Everton in 2000. Ex Sheffield Utd player who works tirelessly in midfield and is totally committed to the team cause. Won't score many goals but his leadership will be crucial.
24 Antony Kay Youngster who has come through the Reds Academy set up at Oakwell and made the breakthrough into the first team on the opening day of the 2000/2001 season. Appeared just seven occasions last term.
7 Kevin Donavan Signed from Grimsby Town by Nigel Spackman last summer. Had his best spell when Steve Parkin took over and complimented young right-back David Mulligan well on the flank but injury led to him missing the latter part of the campaign.
15 Kevin Dixon Arrived from Leeds Utd during a couple of season ago. If you ever see him please let us know.
23 Carl Barrowclough Carl made his Barnsley debut against Gillingham the season before last but missed all last season through injury. Bags of pace and skill and a direct winger who should have the chance to shine in the 2nd division.
19 Steve Hayward Badly missed last season with an injury that kept him out of the team. Hayward was a key figure under Nigel Spackman and his former manager's world really fell apart when Hayward picked up that knee injury.
18 Garry Jones The first of Steve Parkin's signings last season and the former Rochdale captain certainly won over the supporters with his battling qualities. What he lacks in skill he more than makes up for with his determination. Should thrive in the 2nd division.
8 Chris Lumsdon Parkin decided to sign Chris after an extended loan spell last term. If Lumsden can find his range of passing this campaign and manages to maintain his form throughout this term the Reds will do well.
