Barnsley ended their 1949/50 second division season in 13th place. Wright was the club's leading goalscorer with 17 in all competitions followed by Griffiths and Baxter who scored 15 goals each. The Reds were dumped out of the F.A Cup 4-2 against Stockport County at Oakwell in the 3rd round.
Barnsley's biggest home gate for the season was for the visit of Leeds Utd when 27,017 spectators saw Barnsley draw 1-1 on Boxing Day. A day later they entertained Leeds at Elland Road, this time losing 1-0 in front of 47,817.
The Reds had home attendances in excess of 20,000 for seven matches during the season, and the biggest away match saw 48,119 at Hillsborough when Barnsley lost 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspur were division 2 champions with Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield Utd finishing second and third placed respectively on 52 points, although the Owls had a superior goal difference.
