Photos of Denbury

Standing
in North Street looking towards the Church and cistern where North, South,
East and West streets meet in the centre of Denbury. The shop on the
left is Soper's Butchers which has been converted into a house. The
cistern used to be the main water supply for the village and is now the war
memorial. Another source of refreshment was Tozer's Church House Inn
which is now two houses. This photo is from around 1905.

Looking
down West Street towards Denbury Down around 1912. On the left is the
Reading and Coffee Room where a small library was housed. It to was
converted into a house.

Maypole
dancing in Batys field sometime in the mid twenties.

Leaving
on a village outing from beside the high Manor wall sometime in the 1920's.
Note the solid tyres and the phone number for A. C. Bulpin, "Newton
Abbot Phone 75".

Reverend
J. H. Reiby was curate and then rector of Denbury from 1859 to 1897.
He is pictured here with his second wife.

The annual
outing to the seaside assembling in North Street. Date unknown.

The horse
drawn tank contains water which was sprayed onto the road to soften it and
help the steam roller press stones into it. This scene is in North Street
circa 1905.
