Gwen and Frank Newbury's Dalegarth Kennel is relatively unknown in the United States, but such is not the case in Great Britain, Australia, or Europe. They have consistently produced Miniature Smooth and Miniature Wire Champions since 1957.
They began back in 1955 with Krishna of Kinghurst, a Miniature Smooth. Their first Champion was Ch. Dalegarth Teilwood Sally, in 1957, also a Miniature Smooth.
They have judged at Championship level throughout Great Britain and overseas for around 25 years.
The Newbury's have bred about two dozen Miniature Wire or Miniature Smooth Champions since then, and there are also Dalegarth Champions in Australia, Kenya, Italy and Ireland.
This is only a small kennel, and so the number of Champions is even more surprising when one considers how few dogs Dalegarth have bred over the years, and the impressive show records earned by these dogs.
In April of 1987, since Frank was now officially retired, they opted to also retire from their boarding kennel business, and have moved to Primrose Cottage in the village of Fenton, near Warboys in Cambridgeshire. At their new address they are devoting themselves totally to the even further improvement of their Miniature Dachshunds.

Since retiring, some 13 years ago, we have bred very few litters and because of advancing years have not travelled extensively to the shows, but our dedication to both our chosen varieties is undiminished. It has given us great pleasure to see a number of breeders produce their first Champion from our bloodlines. As a consequence, CH.DALEGARTH RUFFIAN was THE WIRE HAIRED DACHSHUND CLUB'S Top Miniature Stud for four successive years (Photo. at top left of page). |

Our ambition now, which is already becoming realised, is to produce a small, carefully selected STUD TEAM of top quality males built around the bloodlines of CH.RUFFIAN and the beautiful CH.DALEGARTH RAG DOLL (by CH. D. RUFFIAN) through her daughter Dalegarth Dollybird (by the red CH.DALEGARTH RAGGED ROBIN). |

We have bought-in a Ruffian son, FOXEARTH FAVOUR OF DALEGARTH who has a total out-cross dam of Swedish breeding. We have also used CH. Foxearth Fusileer of Drakesleat, who has some different Swedish lines, on a Ruffian CC. winning bitch, (Dalegarth Harriet) Both these ventures have already, (Mar. 2000), produced Ch. Show first prize winning puppies including a first CC. to a new owner. |

The Miniature Smooth dog, DALEGARTH DOUBLE-TAKE (Photo at top right of page) is Double Champion bred and has 1 CC and 5 Res. CCs. His young, in-bred son recently won Best Puppy in Show at THE DACHSHUND CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW and will also be at stud shortly. |
