Ahoy there! I felt like a real ship's cat this week - staying on the marina. It is, of course, a big lie that cats don't like water. We don't like being IN water - but being near water is quite acceptable. In fact, it provides plenty of great opportunities for us cats to do catty things. Like staring intently at nothing in particular for hours at a time - the light reflecting off the top of the water is a wonderful excuse for this. Another big bonus of water is that fish live in it. But this is actually somewhere that Swansea failed miserably. Although I saw many people with fishing sticks - not a single one caught anything more than a very small crab (far too prickly to be eaten) and I saw no sign at all of any life beneath the waves that hadn't commuted there via the sewage outlets. Even the fish that I stole from the chippie was very small and frozen. There are a couple of other cats in residence in the marina. But they are rather snobby - obviously retired here from their previously hectic existence as high powered executive cats, and they don't like to commune with the transient touring population. Conversely - the M&S scraps are great for a mid afternoon snack. A word of caution, though: Range Rovers are great to sleep under - but it is hard for the drivers to see the ground behind them - so pay attention! P.S. It is difficult to get onto the boats themselves - but it is possible to slip through the electric pass gates along with the humans if you are quick. Following a group with plastic bags is a good bet - they will probably be too concerned with not dropping their gin to notice a small furry infiltrator! |
