Film Society Awards 2002

There was a record number of entries - 61 across all categories - with the overall quality being excellent.

The Engholm Award for Film Society of the Year - Reel Institute

This society describes itself as a "unique creation and experience." The Reel Institute can show films, in 8 formats, combines film with live music, music, storytelling, food and fringe events.

Best New Society - Uckfield Film Society

The society provides an excellent balanced programme combining new and classic films with a stellar array of guest speakers and excellent film programming.

Best Programme of Films - Keswick Film Club

Winner for the second year running was Keswick Film Club with well over half foreign language programming plus themed nights and the occasional Spinal Tapscreening.

Best Programme Notes - Reel People ( Kilmersdon)

They provide comprehensive, well-researched notes linked to pre-show PowerPoint presentations.

Best Marketing - Slough Co-op

The society has proved that a professional attitude towards marketing with a targeted campaign can make all the difference.

Best Student Society - Edinburgh University

The winner, with a clearly winning programme and a sense of humour was Edinburgh University.

The Charles Roebuck Cup - Phil Walkley

Phil has been involved with film societies since his school days. A past Chairman of BFFS, he set up Purbeck Film Festival in 1996, initiated the Dorset Moviola project and is the guiding light for the his next "big adventure", the first Cinemobile in England.
