The voluntary national body which represents the interests of film societies in Britain is The British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS). It works with other bodies such as local Arts Boards, the Independent Cinema Office and the lottery commission to support film societies. It publishes a newsletter and holds national events. It publishes special leaflets on subjects such as how to start up a film society. It lobbies the film trade and government on behalf of film societies.

Each area of the United Kingdom has a BFFS Group to provide local support, organise meetings and provide other services. (The North West Group serves Northern Ireland. South-West Group serves the Channel Islands and Scilly Islands. Student Group covers the whole country and serves the special needs of film societies in colleges, polytechnics and universities.)
