The society is currently in hiatus. They say:
"... due to non-availability of a good regular venue, and unaffordable alternative venues and equipment when we do not have our usual venue, BIFS is exploring other possibilities."

Established by a group of film students the society opened with a conscious nod to the establishment of the very first film society in the world, the London Film Society, whose inaugural film was also Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin. They have guest speakers after each show - e.g. Laura Mulvey after Peeping Tom. Their patron is Ken Loach and the star of his film Ae Fond Kiss, Atta Yaqub was guest speaker at the opening event.
