LUDLOW, with its medieval Castle, old streets and river with weirs is only five miles west of Hope Bagot.

For walkers, the village footpaths are well marked and a leaflet is available from Hope Bagot Church describing various routes around the parish - Wellington boots may be needed. Guests can also borrow books describing further footpath routes around South Shropshire.
The Shropshire Way passes a short distance away over Clee Hill with its industrial history and you can reach the Wenlock Edge, the Long Mynd or the Black Mountains by car.  Or visit Shropshire Walking, Shropshire Cycling and Shropshire Riding for more information.

The TITTERSTONE CLEE HILL, the BROWN CLEE, the LONG MYND and the STIPERSTONES, all of which provide good walking country, interesting industrial history and fantastic views, are close by.

The town markets are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. If you are lucky enough to be in Ludlow on the second or fourth Thursday of the month, why not take advantage of the local farmers' market known as Local to Ludlow. Ludlow is home to three independent butchers, two greengrocers, three bakers and a number of other specialist food shops. From our own parish of Hope Bagot, you can get Mahorall Farm Cider and local beers are also made with Hobsons of Cleobury Mortimer one of the favourites.

You will also be able to find other local products, through the Shropshire Hills Sustainable Business Scheme.

Keen gardeners will be interested in gardens open under the National Garden Scheme,details of which are here during the summer season. There are many well known gardens and nurseries in the area, including Stone House Cottage Garden, Eastgrove Cottage Garden, Bryan’s Ground, Lingen Garden, the Lance Hattatt design garden, Powis Castle, Hergest Croft and a number of specialist nurseries. Visitors have been known to return home with their cars overflowing with plant pots!

Day visitors can spend a few hours on Ludlow Golf Course and, throughout the year, Antique & Flea Markets, Craft and Collectors Fairs are held in the Castle Square most weekends.  Wet weather days can be comfortably employed by visiting The Judge’s Lodging at Presteigne or the Land of Lost Content at Craven Arms.  To find out what’s on, the Ludlow Assembly Rooms have films and other activities.

Shrewsbury, Hereford and Worcester are within an easy drive. English Heritage sites, including Stokesay Castle, the Severn Valley Country Park & Railway, Powis Castle, the Elan Valley and Ironbridge make interesting half or full day trips and the National Trust properties in Hereford, Shropshire and Worcestershire are within reach.
