The Hope Bagot parish covers an area of about 500 acres on the southern slopes of Titterstone Clee Hill. About 45 people live in the parish, comprising 26 households. The Parish is administered by the Parish Meeting which sets a precept each year to be collected by the South Shropshire District Council as part of the Council Tax. This is used mainly towards the upkeep of the Village Hall which is held in trust for the parishes of Hope Bagot and Whitton and the maintenance of the Churchyard. The Parish has little history other than that attached to the list of Rectors on the board in the church. The name is derived from the Saxon ‘hope’ meaning a valley and Bagot or Bagart or Bagard, the name of the owner of

shows footpaths coming from six directions to converge at this point. The Hollow Way, known locally as Monks Way, leads up from near the church to the Nunnery site and then on up the hill. The portion leading from the church was once lined with an avenue of Yew trees, but these were felled by a farmer as they were poisoning his stock. However, some stumps remain having a circumference of about ten foot each.
