How to Hear our On-line Music & Video

On our various associated sites and pages, click on streaming music links to hear the sounds in just a few seconds, like a radio station. No need to download first. If anything else happens instead, you probably need to download and install a more up-to-date version of the respective player (software).

There’s no single standard for audio, but the main ones are as follows.  Click on each heading for a beginners guide on how to check you have it, and if not, how to install it.

Real Audio
The most popular format, and you can download the basic player for free. Gets web TV and radio stations too. Version 7 is faster, tougher and does more - only 20 mins to download, and will improve your PC leasure.

MP3s
You read about it in the press. CD-ish quality in manageable files which you can download and play on computer or portable player like the Rio.

Windows Media
Becoming more and more widespread, this is Microsoft's rival to RealAudio. With my crummy modem link, I think it sounds better than Real Audio but see what you make of it.  Download from here.

Other Varieties
Several other varieties exist, including Streaming MP3 (like ShoutCast), Macromedia Flash, and AVI.  Maybe ShortStraw.Net will support these too one day.

I’ll tell you more about these otherthings another time...
