Streaming Audio - Real Media

The most popular format for streaming audio is Real Audio.  Nowadays it is possible to receive pictures and text as well, so it’s becoming Real Media.

If you have a sufficiently recent version of the RealPlayer (software) installed, then when you click on a RealAudio or RealMedia link it should just work - admittedly after half a minute or so of “warming up” (connecting, buffering..).

Problem:  You get some other effect, such as a popup dialog box asking if you want to Open or Save. If you get this, just cancel the box. Instead, download and install the current version of the RealPlayer as described below, then try again...

To Download and Install the latest RealPlayer Software. Click on the Real icon below to go to the manufacturers website and follow their instructions to download a RealPlayer - the free one or the Plus one as you prefer.  Download it to any directory or even the desktop - it is just a setup file.  This took me about 20 minutes. Once you have it, you can execute it (in your preferred manner for installing software). My approach is Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Install - Next - Browse - (select the setup file) - Open - Finish. This will begin  the installation process proper, to create the permanent files in other directories. Thereafter you can delete the setup file.
