Streaming Audio - Windows Media My favourite format for streaming audio at present is Windows Media. Like Real Media, this can show pictures and text as well as audio. If you have a sufficiently recent version of the Windows Media Player (software) installed, then when you click on a Windows Media link it should just work - admittedly after half a minute or so of “warming up” (connecting, buffering..). Problem: You get some other effect, such as a popup dialog box asking if you want to Open or Save, or some strange text (e.g. “<ASX>”) appears in the browser If you get this, just cancel the box and/or back-button the browser. Instead, download and install the current version of the Windows Media Player as described below, then try again... To Download and Install the latest Windows Media Player Software. Click on the Windows Media icon below to go to the manufacturers website (Microsoft) and once there, press the Download button to receive your free Windows Media Player. A dialog box will then come up. WARNING: unlike most downloadable software on the net, do not choose “Save this program to disk”. This will cause some of the software components to be omitted (codecs). Instead select “Run this program from it’s current location”. Trust Microsoft to be different! |
