Kilt Rock

Kilt Rock
    3 miles from Grealin

Situation

Grealin is situated in a very rural but accessible spot on the Trotternish Peninsula, one of the most impressive and picturesque parts of Skye. It is on the edge of the Trotternish National  Scenic Area.

The cottage's position is totally unspoilt, on the edge of the moors, with complete peace and privacy. It stands apart in its own enclosed garden, with trees to the rear, and is located in an elevated position about one mile from the sea, facing the mainland. There are unusually extensive views of the moors, sea, islands, and mountains of the mainland.  Cars may be parked beside the house. Portree, 14 miles distant, has a full range of everyday shops, bars and restaurants, and gives access to all other areas in Skye. Staffin (general store, petrol) is 5 miles. Glenview Inn and Restaurant, (closed in winter),  ¾ mile.

The Cottage

is a traditional stone-built crofter's cottage with original dormer windows and wood lining throughout. It has been fully modernised, although great care has been taken not to alter its original character. Both furnishings and decoration are as far as possible in keeping with the house, but in conformity with modern requirements of convenience and comfort. It has been in the family for many years and is furnished and equipped as the family home it is.

Activities based on Grealin

There are many excellent trips (on foot, by car, or a combination), of all lengths, to be made in the Trotternish area.  There is very easy access to such well-known beauty spots as the Quirang, the Old Man of Storr, Lealt Falls and Duntulm castle. The area is an ideal one for walking generally, both in the hills (the Trotternish Ridge is one of the classic British ridge walks, with no technical problems), or along the coast, with its magnificent cliffs.  Details of many of these expeditions which we enjoy ourselves, of varying lengths, are described in leaflets in the house, including walks direct from the house. For birdwatchers, there are many interesting moorland and coastal birds to be seen. There is a bird-list in the house. Fishing is available in local lochs and rivers. There is pony-trekking based near Portree. Boat trips are available in Staffin (four miles), where there is also a sandy beach.
