2006 Sailing Report.
A
good season with the following events;
Cadet. The
initial date for the Jean Lauder Trophy was cancelled and it ran in conjunction
with the Cadet Trophy. This was a very well
attended joint event with almost 12 boats on the water and worked well as a
combination.
Cruising. There
have been no cruising events organised out with the racing calendar.
General Sailing. Availability
of tide tables has seen some members utilising tides outside the racing
calendar, mainly for boat tuning.
Racing. There
have been 108 organised club races this
season, with 66 sailed (61%), and 42 not sailed (39%). There have been many reasons for this
particularly high percentage high wind, lack of wind, lack of attendees and
coinciding with training events. [2005
season – (73% and 27%)]
There
has again been almost 30 owned boats competing as well as the club GP14’s, Solo
and Pico which have also been well utilised throughout the racing season.
Entries
for racing on days where the Solo fleet have attended traveller events have
been low. The NSC travelling Solo fleet
have represented the club well at the Scottish Championships and the Scottish
Traveller circuit, with Nigel Orkney finishing runner up on the traveller
circuit.
Solo Traveller The
Solo traveller was poorly attended, due to LBSC regatta being held on the same
weekend. The weather was kind and 14
entrants took part in three organised races with 9 NSC entrants taking part.
Regatta. The
regatta was well attended by NSC and KSC boats with almost 15 entries. A very enjoyable BBQ and social evening
followed.
Social
Events. Sadly there was only 2 from
the 5 organised BBQ’s took place, despite this being one of the longest and
warmest summers.
Finally,
thank you to everyone who has taken part this year, whether on the water or on
the shore, due to you NSC has enjoyed another healthy season.

Proposed Amendments for 2007 Season.
Handicap
System.
§
Again recalculated
three times per season, to coincide with the natural change over of series.
However
in an effort to simplify personal handicaps everyone will start the season with
their last handicap from the previous season. Where a new member joins NSC they
will start with a scratch PY rating for the class sailed, until the preceding
section of results is calculated.
Saturday,
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Evening Series
§
To return to 6
races, with 4 to count, as most series with 8 races this year only had 4 races completed
per series.
§
Evening Series to
revert to a single night throughout.
Fixture
list will have one weekend day a month free for Training.
Continue
to have a separate list of dates with available tides for General Sailing
and Cruising to be compiled out with fixture list.
Jean Lauder Trophy and Cadet Trophy to be combined
as a specific fun weekend event to promote female and junior sailing.
Scratch
races in a series of 6 with the best 4 to count, for the best placed female and

Personal
Handicapping System.
The Sailing Secretary will post notice of personal
handicapping on the club notice board, which will apply for the duration of
each series. This will be an amendment to maintain the same personal handicap
throughout each series. (ie. Sat A&B prior to Sat C&D, Spring prior to
Summer, etc..)
·
Rules.
The IYRU and RYA racing
rules apply to all NSC Racing, unless otherwise amended by Sailing
Instructions.
Entrants will be
recognised by the boat entered into each series. (ie. Entrants using more than one boat per
series will be recognised separately)
·
Points.
Low scoring points system applies to all corrected results for each race.
