http://www.newburghsailingclub.org

By now members should have paid their membership fees.

Absentee members: Some members run small keelboats and so cannot always find time to go to Newburgh. To see what they are up to have a look at the keelboat page.

TYCA now have a new website - it allows you to vote on the quality of the site. It seems to be very lightly used. - go to http://www.tyca.org.uk/

If any member wants any information put onto the website can you please send it in.

Information about the Club:

We are situated on the south (Fife) shore of the Tay between Perth to the West and Dundee to the East. Our membership is mainly dinghies with a few day boats. We welcome all abilities as long as they have an interest in sailing. In recent years the Solo fleet has expanded to something like 13 boats.
The river is tidal and we sail about 2 hours each side of high water.

Club Racing Events
We have various club cup events which include a Race to Perth and a club Mugdrum Island Race. In our Regatta we always have an open Mugdrum Island Race as one of the events. Mugdrum Island is a fairly large island in the Tay with a channel round the back which can be negotiated by dinghies and other shallow draught vessels. For several years now we have had a Solo class travellers on our fixture list.
We have a series of races throughout the year for the Willie Farquharson trophy. Willie was one of the founders of the club which formed in 1958.

A Mirror 16  (rare nowadays) and  a GP14 cruise the Tay just off Newburgh. The clubhouse is just astern of the light blue hulled GP 14 but does not show up clearly here.

We don't just race - other activities on the Water:

It is possible to cruise upriver and take a picnic to places like Inchyra where there is a Civil Service Boat Club, to one of the old salmon stations or to Elcho Castle. It is also possible to sail quite far up the River Earn which joins the Tay just upriver from Newburgh. Cruises downriver to Dundee and beyond are also possible. Some of our more adventurous members have taken their small boats right round the coast via St Andrews to the East Neuk Fife harbours on the Firth Of Forth. In recent years we have run successful 'Introduction to Sailing courses' which have helped increase our membership. We also run training courses for powerboat and rescue boat so that members can share the rescue boat duties.

Facilities:

The grounds of the sailing club are at the east end of Newburgh down behind the football ground. The clubhouse is built on top of the river embankment. It consists of ladies and gents changing rooms, kitchen and large open plan area with tables and seating. The building was originally wood bit now has a harled, breezeblock outer shell and an ODs box on the roof.
The boat park is down at a lower level (sheltered) and behind the clubhouse. Entrance is by a locked gate.
We operate 2 rescue boats. A smaller rigid boat is used for everyday events and calm weather. We also have a RIB which is capable of faster operation in rougher conditions. These are kept in a container adjacent to the clubhouse.  Over winter we have access to covered storage facilities for dinghies and some day boats.
