Sixth 'Salute to Pantomime'

The 6th 'Salute to Pantomime' competition ran through the 2006/7 panto season. Amateur Groups in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland took part. Groups just over the border from these Counties are also welcome to enter.

The catagories for the competition were:- Set design, lighting and sound, original script, dancing, singing, supporting role (female), supporting role (male), young person, animal, villain, principle girl, principle boy, dame. The Blue Balloon Trophy was awarded for the 'Pantomime of the Year 2007'.

The awards event 'Salute to Pantomime' was held on Saturday 24th March 2007 at Guthlaxton College (see www.guth.org.uk for map) Station Road, Wigston (doors open 6.30pm curtain up 7.30pm)

Best Comedy Duo

Charlotte Devy & Kim Tucker as Snatch and Grab in "Shoe - the Panto" by the Duckpond Players

 

Best Animal

Sarah-Kay Robinson as the Cat in "Shoe the Panto" by the Duckpond Players

 

Best Young Person

Mike Barclay as the Genie in "Aladdin" by the East Leake Amateur Players

 

Best Female Supporting Role

Heather Craddock as So-Shy in "Aladdin" by the Trinity Players

 

Best Male Supporting Role

Stephen Hinde as Wishee Washee in "Aladdin" by Wycliffe Drama Group

 

Best Singing

The Chorus in "Aladdin" by Wycliffe Drama Group

 

Best Choreography

Jessica Phillips, (assisted by Kara Potter) in "Cinderella" by Harborough Youth Theatre

 

Best Original Script

Peter Henton for "Shoe - the Panto" performed by the Duckpond Players

 

Best Lighting and Sound

Geoff Agar & Brian Hooper in "Sinbad theSailor" by the Latimer Players

 

Best Set Design

The Design Team for "Excaliber" by Highcliffe ATS

Groups which entered the competition were:-

Market Harborough Youth Theatre

Swinford Operatic and Drama Group

Swinford produced Beauty and the Beast and a good time was had by both cast and audience

 

The Beast has become the handsome prince and everyone lives happily ever after

Wycliffe Drama Group

11hr Productions

11hr Productions put on their first pantomime, Cinderella, written and directed by John Shaw at the Wheatsheaf Theatre, Knightonfields Road, Leicester on 9th and 10th December to a packed and appreciative audience.

Trinity Players

The Trinity Players production of Aladdin by Norman Robbins was presented at Trinity Hall, Hinckley from Wednesday 29th November to Saturday 2nd December.

 

The ghost overacting - again! O no he isn't!
