David Torkington is a Catholic journalist, author and speaker, who writes and lectures about prayer and Christian spirituality. He specialises in Mystical Theology and Franciscan spirituality. He has had a regular column in The Catholic Herald for many years and is a freelance journalist writing for many different newspapers and periodicals throughout the world. His Publications include The Trilogy on Prayer, The Hermit, The Prophet and The Mystic which has sold over 120,000 copies at home and abroad and has been translated into over twelve languages. His other books include, Inner Life, A New Beginning, and Dear Susanna and he has produced Inner Life Tapes. His book How to Pray was published world wide in 2002. His latest book, Wisdom from the Western Isles - the Making of a Mystic will be published on the 29th August 2008 by O-Books. He has produced this site to promote genuine Christian spirituality and Contemplative Prayer, distinguishing it from those forms of Eastern meditation techniques mistakenly identified with authentic Christian Mysticism. Although he has been deeply influenced by the ancient monastic tradition his spirituality is predominantly Franciscan and his mystical theology Carmelite.
