Advice & Referral Service

The Advice & Referral (A&R) service is at the heart of all ELF’s work. In recent years it has seen a significant increase in inquiries about environmental problems ranging from concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning to the major expansion of a national football stadium. To contact ELF’s Advice and Referral Service please call: 020 7404 1030.

Outreach

There are two outreach programmes currently being operated by the Foundation: the London Environmental Outreach Programme (LEOP) and UK Outreach. Both projects provide specific support in raising awareness, helping communities and providing advice on local problems through a range of community-based events including workshops, seminars and lectures. LEOP is project funded by the Bridge House Estates Trust Fund and UK Outreach by the Community Fund.

Community Development

The Community Development Programme provides longer-term support and advice for communities that want to improve their own environment through direct and positive action such as publishing an environmental action guide. The programme is funded by the Tudor Trust.

Events

ELF runs at least two major events each year with the intention of raising awareness about specific aspects of environmental law. Recent events include the inaugural Professor David Hall Lecture entitled: Environmental risk: the responsibility of the law and science by Lord Woolf, Lord Chief Justice.

Training & Education

The skills and expertise of the Foundation and its members are effectively used to inform the legal and other professions about topical environmental issues through the provision of training programmes. The Foundation provides Continuing Professional Development training that is accredited by the Law Society, the Bar Council and the Institute of Legal Executives. It also trains volunteers and interns about environmental law, environmental office practice and case management.

The Foundation aims to continue securing access to environmental justice for the communities it represents and to encourage environmental awareness at every opportunity. It believes in its role in society and in taking action to help empower communities and individuals to make real change for the better, for the environment and for the future.
