Madly jingoistic Aussie entrepreneur Dick Smith named these matches by appending his christian name to the latter half of the more traditional matches name, Redheads. Never a fan of giving money to Johnny Foreigner, Dick, whose comical, bespectacled visage is displayed prominently outside his ubiquitous chain of electronics shops, coined the name to point out that Australians who buy imported goods are, indeed, dickheads.
