Bill Robinson

Sonny Boy's grave
Bill Robinson with son Ben at Sonny Boy Williamson's grave

Mr Fabulous — Bill Robinson — the singer with the Fabulous Fontains first sang at Lancaster’s Shakespeare Hotel at the tender age of 14!

The band was originally know as Tony and the Fontaines, Bill taking over on vocals when the first singer, the eponymous Tony Fontaine left the group. Bill bounced back on to the music scene after working in local government for 30 years, the voice in as good shape as ever.

Bill cites his main musical influences as blues men Sonny Boy Williamson, Walter Horton and more recently Brian Bruce who plays harmonica with Henry Gray and the Cats.  On a recent trip to the States, Bill made a pilgrimage to visit the grave of his hero Aleck Miller, aka Sonny Boy, in Tutweiler, Mississippi.

Both the Robinson sons are musicians. Ben Robinson plays in London with the punk group Wangdango and Greg Morgan plays saxophone and flute.
