Petit Vimy British Cemetery

Vimy is a village some 10km north of Arras and the Petit-Vimy British Cemetery is west of the village and a little west of the main road from Lens to Arras. It is a small cemetery on a hillside surrounded by fields and woods and is approached along a track through fields. The cemetery is surrounded by stone walls and contains many Canadian soldiers.
Vimy is famous for the Battle of Vimy Ridge (9th-14th April 1917). The cemetery was made and used by units in the front line from the beginning of May to October 1917. In 1923 it was increased by the addition of graves found on the battlefields to the North-West. There are now over 90, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, a quarter are unidentified
