August Bank Holiday Exhibitions
| Matlock, Matlock Bath and the surrounding areas are very popular for tourists and day trippers especially at weekends and Bank Holidays. In 1978 it was decided to create a Tansley at Home weekend over the August Bank Holiday so that village folk would have events in the village and would not need to venture onto the crowded roads. The Horticultural Club already had a Horticultural Show on August Bank Holiday Monday so it was decided to hold an exhibition in the Church on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and also to hold a united open air service on the Village Green on the Sunday afternoon (in the Village Hall if wet). Very successful exhibitions were held over the next 20 years, until 1998. All the exhibitions relied on village people bringing items relating to the theme to be displayed, which they had made or had in their possession and many villagers helped to display them. |
