1995 - 1998 : Product Manager (Quality Manufacturing Systems)

After supporting QMS products over a five year period on a freelance basis, Derek was invited to take up the full-time position of Product Manger at Quality Manufacturing Systems.

His duties are to manage the standard QMS package content, quality and documentation. He also undertakes Customer & Distributor Training, Sales & Marketing Support and Client Management duties as required.

In the  3 years he has been in this position he has:

• Established and implemented a strategy for product documentation taking the user manuals from 3 basic volumes to a full set of some 12 manuals. As well as product documentation these now include Implementation Guides, User Guides and System Management volumes. A key element in this strategy was to single source both the printed manuals and the on-line windows help files.
• Taken a Quality Management Software package through Quality Assurance, documentation and pre-release marketing to the point of release.
• Project Managed a major customer project to integrate the QMS Jobshop Manufacturing Control system with the CONFORMANCE Quality Management system and add bespoke developments to form a Configuration Data Management system. This system provides a full Design, Manufacturing and Quality Traceability record giving the As Designed v's As Built status for each despatched unit. This is a major element in support of the customer's £40m contract with a US based Defence contractor.
• Currently Project Managing the porting of QMS products onto the AS/400.
• Project Managed the product development including a Document Management/CAD Interface module, a Forecasting module and a Fixed Assets module.

He also investigates and evaluates systems products and associated application software as suitable for integration into QMS products.

1994 - 1995 and 1989 - 1994 : Independent Consultant (Cimplementation Limited.)

In this role, Derek was a consultant specialising in advising companies on the effective use computer based business systems.

He specialised in the manufacturing where he has considerable experience and was able to cost-effectively support organisations in realising the benefits from the implementation of modern manufacturing control techniques.

He successfully completed projects for clients including developing Technology strategies, writing statements of user requirements, sourcing & selecting systems and in project managing their implementations. As an Independent consultant he was responsible for marketing and selling his skills and for the management of his own company.
