UXBRIDGE (3) 4 Tunnell 20, Clark (2) 27, 38, Walters 60
BROOK HOUSE (1) 1 Graham 23
Uxbridge cruised through to the second round of the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, but not before Brook House had fancied their chances of causing an upset. The visitors contained a number of Ex-Uxbridge players in their ranks, no doubt keen to show the Honeycroft crowd just what they could be do. The game itself was a fairly open encounter with neither team able to stamp any authority on it. Paul Mills created the first chance in the 6th minute having his shot blocked by a mass of defenders just six yards out. Three minutes later Brook House almost took the lead when Phil Granville steered a cross towards the corner of his own net, only for Neil Burns to expertly tip the ball up and over the bar to safety. The Reds eventually settled into a rhythm and took the lead in the 20th minute, when a Paul Mills shot hit Dean Clark and fell kindly for the midfielder to strike a shot towards the bottom corner, only for Lee Knott to block the shot. However Lee Tunnell was on hand to follow in and scramble the ball over the line for his fourth goal in three games. Any thoughts that Uxbridge would then get a hatful were quickly shelved as Brook House hit back with an excellent goal within three minutes. Right back David Graham ghosted past the Reds defence and floated the ball into the bottom corner of the net, with Neil Burns rooted to the spot. The Spartan South Midlands side then almost took the lead on 26 minutes when Kevin Warner pounced on a loose ball, only to find his well placed shot tipped over by Burns. The save proved vital as Uxbridge regained their advantage just a minute later when Dean Clarks cross, looped over Knott and dropped into the far corner. Uxbridge then began to turn the screw and were rewarded with a third goal on 38 minutes. Some excellent work from Gavin Bamford saw him jink his way into the penalty area, the ball was half cleared to the edge of the box, where Clark was waiting to drill a crisp shot low into the net, giving the keeper no chance at all. Jamie Carter replaced Lee Tunnell at half time and his physical presence up front seemed to unnerve the Brook House defence. A concerted spell of Uxbridge pressure for the opening minutes of the half saw Uxbridge increase their lead further. Dean Clark shot against the keepers legs from a narrow angle, from the corner Steve Walters drove in a screamer but somehow Knott sprang to his left to parry the shot. Walters was not to be denied though and scored from the resultant corner, with a carbon copy of Clarks first goal when his cross to the far post evaded everyone and dropped into the far corner of the net. Brook House heads then began to drop as they realised this was not to be their night, and they game drifted to an inevitable conclusion. In the 80th minute the ever willing Carter pounced on a poor backpass and rounded the keeper, but shot against the side netting from an acute angle. Brook House were restricted to a number of long range efforts none of which tested Burns in the Uxbridge goal. There was time for Dean Clark to almost snatch a Hat-Trick, but he shot wide from the edge of the box with the keeper stranded. In truth a fifth goal would have been harsh on Brook House, but it is Uxbridge who have booked a home tie with Premier Division Enfield in the second round.
