FORD UNITED (0) 2 Dawson (og) 65, Holding 75

Uxbridge slumped to their ninth defeat in thirteen games after a sloppy game played in difficult conditions. The opening exchanges were fairly even with neither side creating any real chances. Uxbridge fashioned the best opportunity with a free kick on 10 mins from Gavin Bamford, which was headed goalward by brother Stuart, only for Jimmy Chapman in the Ford goal to parry the shot and claw the ball away. Mark Gill fired the loose ball wide under pressure from a number of defenders.

Gill again was at the heart of the action on 25mins, when he got goalside of the last defender from a cross on the wing and got in a flick header straight at Chapman. Billy Read provided Fords best chances, with a header over the bar from a corner on 31 mins and the 2 minutes later Sean Dawson smothered at his feet as he drifted into Uxbridge's penalty area. On 40 mins Lela Bejeda found some space in the box but shot wide from only six yards when it seemed easier to score.

The second half began in much the same way as the first ended, although the weather got steadily worse with driving rain and wind hampering any efforts to play any sort of composed football. Gavin Bamford wriggled through on the edge of the box, only to have his shot blocked by the Ford defence. The turning point came when Stuart Bamford was booked for dissent and then less than 2 minutes later was rather harshly sent off for retaliation, when a late tackle came in from behind. Things were evened up though less than 5 minutes after this when Ford's Dave Jolley was ordered off this time for aiming a punch at Gavin Bamford. This spurred the visitors on and after having a goal ruled out for offside, they were gifted the lead on 65mins when Sean Dawson palmed Scott Holding's swirling corner into his own net at the near post. Dean Clarke and Chris Moore then came on, in place of the hardworking Gill and Steve Walters to try and inject some fresh legs into the proceedings only for Ford to double their lead 7 minutes later. A free kick was never really cleared by the defence and Holding drilled in a shot from 25 yards which appeared to miss everyone and end up in the Uxbridge net. Ford now had the bit between their teeth and Bejeda forced a good save from Dawson with a low drive. Uxbridge now had to push forward and Chris Moore hit the post from a cross after some good work down the left flank. Despite some late pressure Chapman never really had a save to make and when Paul Mills volleyed wide on 86 mins, time had just about run out for a late Uxbridge comeback, and leaves the Uxbridge supporters wondering where the next three points are going to come from.
