We are the oldest established Pottery in the area, starting off in 1971 in Ingleton.  We are a small family business, (Dick, Jill and Dan Unsworth) and between us we make high-fired, hand-thrown stoneware pottery, and terra-cotta garden pots.

Here's a little more about each of us...

DICK

The bald-headed, one-handed , grey-bearded, shabby old guy with the ready smile and giant intellect...that's me!...I'm the Managing Director and sweeper-up!  I do most of the throwing, all of the worrying, and share little of the life of leisure that the other two enjoy!

At the age of 13, I blew my right hand off making fireworks, fitting me perfectly for a trade where two hands would seem to be the absolute minimum.  However, this trifling defect doesn't seem to have stood in my way.  Were it not for my innate modesty and natural reticence, I'd be tempted to say that my pots are some of the best in the land!  I worked out all the recipes for the glazes and clays which add such stylish finish to our well-wrought-ware.

I do the shows & exhibitions, pay the bills, do the books, and really, if it weren't for me the bloody place would crumble!

JILL

As the artistic one, Jill does all the brushwork, decoration and glazing.  Thinks that the rest of us are a bit beneath her, and do not sufficiently appreciate and revere her.  Also takes the money off the punters.  Rides her ancient horse at every opportunity when she should be working.  Supports, feeds and comforts the rest of us, and is a spectacular adornment to the business!

DAN

Our little boy!  Does all the big pots and gardenware by fashioning the common clay into vessels of utility and enduring beauty!  Displays all the jollity of a bankrupt undertaker at work!  He is now a full partner in the business but still manages to do all the building work and gardening too!  Good lad!
