The Lions International Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people opportunity to think about world peace and express what it means to them. Since then more than 1.5 million children from approximately 65 countries have participated in the annual contest.

The contest is open to children aged 11-13 in all areas where Lions clubs exist. Clubs sponsor the contest in local schools or organised youth groups. Participants are asked to create a poster without words in any two dimensional medium to illustrate a given peace related theme. A full set of rules is provided for each school or group taking part. This year's theme is "Dream of Peace"

Posters advance through several levels of competition, until ultimately one is chosen as the grand prizewinner. This winning design will be seen around the world and will gain the artist $2,500 and an all expenses paid trip for themselves and two family members to attend the award ceremony held during Lions Day with the United Nations in New York in the spring.

To view previous winners and runners up look on the Internet at the online gallery which can be found on www.lionsclubs.org/English/YPPWnrs.html
