Due to the resignation of the Parish Clerk the minutes from this meeting are in the Minute Book but not typed up for the Parish website. This is the report that appeared in the Zennor Down Your Way column of the Cornishman.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING:
The latest meeting of Zennor Parish Council took place on Tuesday 11th October. The meeting began with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting, which were duly signed as correct by Chair Mike Hindley. Under matters arising it was agreed to send letter thanking ex councillor Hetty Whitelock for her contribution during her time in office and Maggie Whitehead for her excellent work as Clerk to the Parish Council. Mike also agreed to continue trying to find a reason from Cornwall County Council Highways as to why the road and leat at Treen were repaired with concrete instead of granite. It was reported that the Christmas tree is now on order, thanks to John Lindfield and that the number for the neighbourhood police officer can be given out via notice boards and press. This is handy as the number was reported in this column in July. If you have lost it our Neighbourhood Beat Manager is PC Perkins. His number is 07736 085946. You will probably get his voice mail, but leave a message and he will get back to you.

Councillor Antony Penhaul then spoke about the map boards. There is still an issue of the granite stone placed in Zennor by the car park being too high; there was also concern that it is leaning on the wooden supports that hold up the original map board, which are to be removed. Councillor Jon Brookes offered to take this on and ensure the granite was sunk into the ground properly. Jon also mentioned that the site for the granite holding the map board at Treen has been okayed, and that it would be useful to have someone there with knowledge of archaeology when it was erected. Jenni Pozzi, who has designed the map for the boards, reported that the final artwork has been sent off and the boards should be ready soon.

The vacancy for a new councillor was then discussed. Since the meeting in September a second parishioner has applied to be a councillor, Keith Cowlishaw. Chair Mike Hindley read out the two letters, one from Raven Lefay and one from Keith. A discussion then ensued and it was decided to check correct procedure with Penwith District Council. As a result the vacancy has been advertised in the Cornishman, along with the declaration that if ten parishioners request it there will be an election, otherwise current parish councillors can decide between themselves and co-opt onto the council the applicant of their choice.

There were no planning issues raised at this meeting. Various items of correspondence had been received regarding the parish paths and these were all forwarded to Parish Paths Officer Jon Swannell.
The final two agenda items were Correspondence and Any Other Business. The first piece of correspondence was a document outlining the way forward for the NHS in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Councillor Antony Penhaul agreed to take this away and précis it for the next meeting. There was also a West Cornwall Community Network magazine, which councillors agreed to pass around, and a letter asking if the Parish Council had any objections to the new licensee of the Gurnards Head, to which they agreed to respond with a no.

Under Any Other Business was mentioned that the council is still looking for a new Parish Clerk, and thanks to Councillor Catherine Penhaul for taking the minutes at this meeting.

The next meeting of Zennor Parish Council will take place at 7.30pm in the village hall on Tuesday 8th November. All parishioners are welcome to attend.

PARISH CLERK NEEDED:
If you have a few spare hours a week and would like to help your community, why not take on the role of Parish Clerk for Zennor Parish Council. The work is interesting rather than onerous, and is paid at minimum wage. No qualifications are necessary. If you feel this role would interest you, contact Chair to the Parish Council Mike Hindley on PZ. 796819.

PARISH COUNCILLOR:
As mentioned there are two applicants to be Parish Councillor, Raven Lefay of Zennor Churchtown and Keith Cowlishaw of Boswednack. Parishioners have two choices, they can leave it up to the Parish Council to discuss the respective applicants and co-opt their choice onto the council, or they can request an election. For an election to take place ten parishioners or more must request it, by writing to Richard Dunn, Returning Officer of Penwith District Council, Council Offices, St. Clare, Penzance, TR18 3QW. Letters requesting an election need to arrive on Richard's desk by 9th November 2005.

Please note these minutes are unapproved. Approved Minutes will be available following the next Parish Council Meeting.
